I brunched with friends this morning at the ultra-chic SLS Hotel in LA and couldn't help but stare at this fabulous chandelier wall molding of the SLS logo. The details stuck with me all day long that I had to google the logo to take a closer look at what was going on with this piece of art. Sexy, dramatic and classy if you take a closer look you'll find all these luxurious little RANDOM things inside the logo that can be found at a hotel, a fork, a cup & a mirror. Retail on the tee is $20.00 & $130.00 on the shades. I often look at what's hot at retail when suggesting ideas to clients and BOTH of these items would be a must have on my "haute list". When shopping ideas for my clients promotions I try and think about things I would love to receive. In the promotional industry you could walk away with branded generic versions of these. A minimum order on the tees would likely be around $7.00 each and the shades under$3.00.

In the last year I've seen an influx of cooking accessories available to promotional lines, anything from branded measuring cups, branded cutting boards, branded kitchen mitts and branded aprons. You don't have to be in the food industry to give a foodie gift. Simply tie it into a holiday like Valentines Day... think of a fun tag line like "The value our partnership is immeasurable."

I had the honor of walking the VIP pink carpet at the "Sex and the City VIP Party" at the Shangri-La Hotel in Santa Monica, CA. Hosted by my friends over at The Party Goddess, I indulged in exclusive Skyy Vodka Martini's (named after the vixen-esq cast...I have to say the Samantha was wicked!) There was a cocktail hour and private screening of the movie...AMAZING.

The swag bags were fabulous and filled with gifts like new perfume by Paris Hilton~ Siren, yummy drinks from IZZI sparkling juice, treats from Soy Joy and Pirate Brands. Freshly home from traveling through Europe, I of course picked up swag in every city I stopped to commemorate my trip and each special memory I created there. It's funny as I searched and searched for unique items but as I unpack I can't help but giggle at my treasures....a "Coo Coo Clock fridge magnet" I picked up in Switzerland, a "busty figurine holding beer steins" from Germany (father's day gift) AND my music box from Paris that plays "La Vie En Rose" that I played a bit ago and reminded me of a romantic walk in the park in Paris with my hubby. My FAVORITE treasure I brought home was a tiny little dog figurine, made of German porcelain, made in 1910; picked up at a little antique shop. Who knew swag could be so special!

I recently attended a fantastic event called Pamper Me Fabulous in Downtown Los Angeles. I spent the day enjoying spa treatments, sipping Champagne (Thank you Barefoot Bubbly for the wine and swag wine glasses) while gossiping and shopping with my BFF's. Some of my favorite highlights at the event were getting eyelash extensions, The Container Stores display of "my dream office" and the crazy delicious treats ALL OVER the event...Oh there were painted men (you have to attend the event to get more info on that!) Ran into some of the Bad Girls from the Bad Girls Club enjoying a little "me" time. I'm happy to report they were actually sweet and nice girls ;-)

Keeping Up With Joneses

It's March Movie Madness for me this year as I've attended several VIP screenings of new releases. One of my favorites, clever enough I felt the need to blog about was The Joneses. Opening April 16th at select theaters The Joneses takes a clever spin on marketing and the lengths brands will go to get their products into the hands of influencers. Without giving too much away the premise is a marketing firm places faux families in affluent neighborhoods and have them sport the coolest products and brands out to influence their community. The marketing landscape has changed so much with the birth of social media and TIVO and it's really not that far fetched. It is interesting to see marketers come up with new innovative ideas, the movie of course show the EXTREME of that. If your career is in marketing you should go check this film out! Other movies I enjoyed, "City Island" w/ Andy Garcia AND "El Secreto De Sus Ojos," Argentian film, subtitled and won best foreign film at the Academy Awards.

The Lakers game this evening was Off The Hook! The stage was set with The American Music Awards going on across the street. Fashionista Betsy Bloomingdale's will be opening her personal couture closet to the FIDM museum this month and an event was held this evening to commemorate the exhibit. This evenings festivites took place on the 2nd floor of the Posh Century City Bloomingdale's. Maria Shrivers Womans Conference

Where do I begin, First Lady Maria Shriver, Katie Couric, Madeleine Albright, Ariana Huffington, Alicia Keys, Tipper Gore; all dynamic woman and all speakers at the event. Inspirational is the only adjective to describe what took place under the roof at the Long Beach Convention Center this last Monday and Tuesday. Talk about swag when ladies weren't busy in their prospective sessions learning how to take over the world, they were mixing and mingling on the trade floor with brands like Target, Mattel and Lean Cuisine. The trade floor looked more like a scene out of Aladdin with charming Moroccan tents scattered about. Mattel had lovely models walking about dressed like actual Barbies in ballroom gowns. Target's booth, one of the busiest replicated a chic VIP section of a club in their modern red and white; while woman got pampered to free manicures and make-overs. I was lucky enough to be a VIP guest at a once a year event at The Petersen Automotive Museum. Once a year The Petersen opens what is known as "The Vault" which is The Petersen Families personal collection of exclusive and luxurious cars. October is off to a fantastic start if swag has anything to do with it! I just came from a fabulous event at the new Chloe' store on Melrose, hosted by Nicki Hilton. Paris and the Hilton Parents also made a surprise appearance. The champagne flowed as guests shopped under the stars, it really was a perfect 80 degree LA evening.

The gift bags were faaabulous, with a Chloe' fragrance sampler and an adorable Gift With Purchase clutch. The GWP clutch is very high end in their signature "Chloe light pink" color with a suddle debossed Chloe' logo.

"All American Conference SWAG"

Having just come back from a 3-day long conference, I'm excited to report about the extra touches that add value to an event like this. The theme was Americana 50's style. It started at check in when I received a branded notebook with the my itinerary for the 3-days neatly printed on the first pages along with a map, event tickets and other special instructions. At the end of a long day I was excited to find a gift bag dropped in my hotel room full of hotel stay "essentials" like snacks, a hoody sweatshirt, other meeting tools, and a branded watch to commemorate the event. Everything of course consistent in the Americana theme and branded with the signature event logo. Other touches worth mentioning were the "image" pillows scattered atop the club like couches. The cocktail hour was staged as a chic club like lounge with white modern couches and end tables. There were also light up beer steins, necklaces and napkins. Take notes from the pros and add that extra "wow" touch whenever possible to leave a lasting impression on your guests. Marketing 101...be consistent with your brand.

This 4th of July I headed up to Park City Utah for some fun and nature. Every year PC puts on a 4th of July Celebration that is crazy small- town-quaint- fun.

One of the highlights is their 4th of July Parade where locals dress up and parade down the "nostalgic" Main Street. I noticed something maybe I never paid attention to before but the parade was filled with product placement and SWAG giveaways. I walked away with a promotional Park City "locals only" VIP CARD which is good for discounts at business across the city. My FAVORITE gift was a re-usable foldable tote compliments of VIV Magazine. VIVMAG online in case you don't know is a a fabulous "all digital" premier luxury magazine. I was lucky enough to meet Editor in Chief Anne Russell (who was also editor at a little Magazine called Shape). Anne was nice enough to tell me about VIV MAG and how it is the first magazine to launch completely paper-less and truly all digital. She also explained me to because VIVMAG is all digital there are creative capabilities not available to our traditional paper magazines. Inspiration Awards-Beverly Hills

The Inspiration Awards was a fabulous event held at The Beverly Wilshire Hotel (where Pretty Woman was filmed.) This years VIP honorees were Marcia Cross (AKA: Bree from Desperate Housewives), Lisa Ling (Journalist) & Lauren Zalanick (President of NBC Universal Women and Lifestyle Entertainment-Bravo & Lifestyle networks.) There was an array of celebs at the event (Larry King, Tori Spelling & Aisha Tyler to name a few) who came out in full force in support of Step Ups efforts and in support of the various sponsors to raise money for their fantastic philanthropic programs for underprivileged girls & for the fight for Cervical Cancer in Woman.
The events message was Motivation, Girl power and Inspiration! Congrats to the honorees! The Swag Bags were just as fab with sponsors like The Container Store, Dermalogica, LoLLIA, ARCADE, Fellice Keller Productions, bhps-Cosmetic Surgery Center & Tibetan Sparkling Tea. My favorite product in the swag bag was the keepsake logoed USB from Fellice Keller Productions that had a complementary movie downloaded on it. I plan to wipe out the movie and reuse the USB all the time, great mileage piece! I encourage you to do your part and help support these causes, "every penny helps!"

E3-Swag....Video Gamers Heaven

I was lucky enough to attend this years Electronic Entertainment Expo AKA: E3 and it blew my mind. I'm not what you would call a gamer by any stretch of the imagination but was so impressed with the technology of video games and the evolution of video home entertainment. There was a plethora of swag to report at this event T-shirts, guitar picks, blow up gaming pieces, thong panties and posters! In case you didn't know GAMING SWAG is a very hot commodity and very much a "collectible-item". How do I know you ask? I'm all about funny and really enjoyed this little swag-gift.! If you don't know, The Ellen Show is very fun and clever. Keeping in theme with the show I came across this absolutely hilarious swag gift that Ellen gave out recently. Packaged in a white satin pouch was the sleep eye mask set. The satin pouch had "The Ellen Show logo" printed on the front, and the mask had an image of Ellen's eye's on the outside. So when you wear this of course it gives you the funny goo...goo Ellen eyes! This is taking an ordinary product and making it extraordinary by adding an image and a logo.

Nine Inch Nails & Janes Addiction Show SWAG

Only in LA can you zip down the 405 to catch a ROCK concert in the OC on a week night! Nine Inch Nails and Janes Addiction rocked the Verizon Amphitheater in true ROCKSTAR style. Usual rock concert swag to report from the T-shirts to branded picks (I think Dave Navarro blew me a kiss and winked at me OMG...OMG...OMG ;-). The real promotion was by the venue Verizon Amphitheater, they had these huge screens and in between sets the screens prompted you to text the number and you could instantly post your personalized message right there in front of the whole crowd...AND enter to win a new phone. Brilliant!

OMG, really!! When I heard about this I thought to myself, now that is a fabulous promotion!! It seems one of the new pool side amenities compliments of the Beverly Hills Montage are "Couture Loaner Shades." In addition to the designer sunglasses the Montage is also giving free foot messages and free smoothies.

Now I don't have to be a spelling bee winner to spell out what fantastic mileage a promotion like this has for both the Montage and Pucci. Anytime your traveling, you are responsible at some level to pick up a gift or gifts for those special people. It's no surprise that any gift that has a logo on it IS indeed a promotional product...no matter which state or country your visiting.

A few little impressive SWAG pieces I thought to write about just coming back from travelling in Europe was actually given out on my Swiss Air flight. Swiss Air flight attendants passed to all the children on our flight little branded Swiss Air puzzles and finger puppets to keep them entertained during our long flight. Adults on our flight were treated to swag socks, blankies and pillows. Swiss Air like many airlines also offers a rewards program where you can redeem your points for branded SWAG products. FIDM Los Angeles - My Big Speech

This week was orientation for the newest class of future grad's from The Fashion Institutes's Los Angeles Campus. Being an Alumni I was invited to speak to a few hundred people (no pressure, right!) My speech went off without a hitch and the audience seemly approved of my advice and giggled at my stories of trials an tribulations as a student myself (ha ha...little do they know).

While waiting, I was excited to see each of the students receive their first official "FIDM" branded SWAG gift. I have to say for a second it took me back to my first day of school. This would be "THE BOOK" that would organize my life for the next year. With this single notebook FIDM instructors would teach me to organize my life by using a dated notebook, and become the organization freakazoid I am today!

Though a lot has changed in the 10 years since I roamed the halls of FIDM the notebook is still a staple. It has had a face lift (see image), but the inside still holds the same value.

I love entertaining and recently hosted a fabulous event at my home in West Los Angeles. Friend and colleague Ruby Dichirico-"Catering Coordinator Extraordinaire" for City Kitchen and Urban Palate, coordinated the festivities by inviting one of her chefs to come in and to teach our party "The Art of cooking Chocolate with SPICE." As the wine flowed so did the array of gourmet samples that Ruby & Chef Jessica brought in for our tasting pleasure. Chef Jessica did a demonstration and taught our group about the different chili's and other freshly ground spices and how they could be used to add flavor to our sweets like chocolate and fresh whipped cream. "Experimental Marketing 101"

On my recent flight up to Park City Utah for some R & R, I read a little gem of an article in the Spirit Magazine (Compliments of Southwest AKA: the public transportation of the air). The article called "Brand Ambassadors by: Courtney Barry" really got me thinking me about how marketing in general has changed so much in recent years and how the SWAG industry has responded to keep with the changing times. With the invention of TIVO and Satellite Radio we can just fast forward through all of the blah blah blah and get right into our fav programming. Advertisers have had to maneuver to more grass roots approaches and inspire end-users to take action to trial their products or visit their websites. The article describes ideas and case studies for "Experimental Marketing" which simply means "interactive promotions". The good old contest, sampling & sweepstakes makes it's come back. Click to read the full Spirit article. A great inexpensive product used in "experimental marketing" is the Egrip. The Egrip is a non slip sticker piece you put on the back side of your PDA. The Egrip comes adhered to a card which you can totally customize. The Egrip can be mailed and can be used to introduce a product, promote a service, announce a special offer, invitation, coupon, or a multitude of other purposes.
